It’s going to be grimey, it’s going to be raw, it’s going to be underground!
YoungstaCPT is wasting no time kicking off 2017 releasing his 27th mixtape, Y?Fi on the 27th of January 2017.
This latest project takes you back to what real mixtapes sounded like in the golden era of Hip Hop. When rappers strived for lyrical excellence over boom-bap beats. Y?Fi takes on a guerrilla style with a collection of short sharp arrangements in place of the standard pop formula.
Consisting of raw unpolished beats, created by Swiss producer Maloon TheBoom, the mixtape features the Cape Town emcee moving effortlessly through 15 classic productions in his unique Cape flavour. The spontaneous nature of Y?Fi makes it a release for the heads worldwide. It’s a taste of things to come from this dynamic duo, who refer to themselves as “YoungLoon Taliboom” with an official album and EP coming in the months ahead.
YoungstaCPT talking on his inspiration for Y?Fi:
“I started learning how to rap on Boom Bap and I wanted to return back to the basics. It’s been a while since I could geek out and I went in like it was 1996, I wanted to transport those who are familiar to that time and for those who are not I wanted to introduce them to something new…”
“The project is called Y?Fi because when I travelled to Europe for the first time and coming from a 3rd world country to see how accessible the Internet was to the public was amazing. When I arrived home I had so much to say and I decided to use Maloon’s old beat tape to express those thoughts in a mixtape format.”
